Projects
Lindfield Uniting Church undertakes a wide variety of projects to support the community.
There are opportunities to join us in working with, or visiting, members of the community in need of support.
For example, Open House gatherings on 2nd Tuesdays at 10.15am reach out to local members of the community to provider social interaction. We also sing in a local aged care facility, Whitehall, on 2nd Wednesdays at 3pm.
One of our most significant projects is the Lindara Markets, which brings together people from our broader community, to volunteer their time to benefit families in need. People from all over the area drop off pre-loved and new items for sorting and pricing by volunteers, that are then sold at the markets held several times per year. All market proceeds fund a social worker for the Lindara Family Program, supporting families in crisis, and mums and kids in need of a safe home in our Ku-ring Gai local government area. The Lindara Family Support Worker cared for 26 families, including 50 children in 2021/22.
2024 Lindara Markets: Saturdays March 23, July 27 & Nov 30 8am-1pm.
If you would like to volunteer at the market, or with pricing and sorting on the Fridays 1-3pm for the month prior to the market, or if you have some young muscles to help our older volunteers with set-up contact us here.
What is Lindara?
Lindara is the longstanding benevolent outreach program instigated in 1987 under the auspices of congregational members amongst the Uniting Churches in the Lindfield and Killara area. The objective and principal focus of the not-for-profit outreach program is on families in crisis and homelessness within the Ku-ring-gai and Hornsby municipalities.
Lindara Markets have been raising monies to support funding of the Lindara Family Program outreach program since 1989.
The Lindara Family Program is widely recognised within the community for its underlying homeless and families in crisis cause, and it’s good reputation. On 10th February 2021, the Hon. Jonathon O’Dea MP, Member for Davidson and Speaker of the NSW Legislative Assembly, delivered a Community Recognition Statement in Parliament regarding the Lindara Family Program and Lindara Markets.
Lindara (ABN 81 592 093 848) is formally registered as a public benevolent institution (PBI) with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC) and endorsed Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) by the Australian Tax Office – view Linkage: https://www.abr.business.gov.au/ABN/View/81592093848.
